Hello everyone!
Life has been so busy that I've been pulled away from DA. But I haven't stopped taking pictures!
3 weeks ago I got this amazing opportunity to visit the development projects of
Solid Peru. I entered a competition by writing a motivation letter to AS Adventure, a Belgian clothing shop who was organising this trip to Peru. AS Adventure created a private label, called Ayacucho, and a bit of the sales profit goes to Solid.
Even though it was a very short trip (10 days + 2 days of planes), the experience was wonderful. The people are warm and friendly, the nature is beautiful and the project is inspirational. I love getting away from our Western society based on consuming, money and time. Getting back to basics makes you realize that we are so lucky in the world we're living in, and more important: how much injustice there still is that simply will never go away.
Ayacucho is located in the south-central Andes of the country and is known for its period of terrorism during the 1980s during, held by the Shining Path. Because of this, the region was politically and economically cut off from the rest of the country. According to Solid, this has led to a poverty level similar to levels in Africa.
Much development aid is needed, since infrastructure is lacking and agriculture conditions are poor. Most people live from farming, but they have to survive on a daily basis cause the earth is not so fertile.
So what did I do as an ambassador for AS Adventure? I came along to visit clients of Solid, to learn how this organisation was operating. And I helped where I could: working on the field (harvesting grain, spreading out cow dung, picking tomatoes), digging a well, laying impossible floor boards, etc...
And I took a lot of pictures, since a journalist from a known Belgian news journal came along to make an article about this trip. So there is a chance my pictures will be published (in february) on a large scale

I hope you are interested in this story, and I hope you'll like the pictures I've taken with me from this trip. Let me know how you are doing.

Eve
